Why is my Father a Complete Jerk?

I think that maybe he feels let down by your choices. Parents tend to take their children's experiences as their own, as if they didn't do well enough to help you find your way. On the other hand, maybe he misses having the house between just the two of them. It is a major adjustment when grown kids move back in. I know someone whose mother is jealous of her because the daughter has a better relationship with the father (husband of mother...). The mom is always giving her a hard time and criticizes her constantly. I want to tell you not to take it personally because it's his problem, but I know how you feel. Just keep on making your plans to move out and things will clear up again. By the way, maybe his comment about your projects offending your grandmother is his way of telling you HE disagrees with your career choices. Good luck!
