Quitting job, do I really NEED to give two weeks notice?
I've decided to quit my job and go full on towards my dream of being a filmmaker! I plan on calling my boss early tomorrow (since I usually get to work before he does) to break the news and tell him I'm not coming to work but I'll be in later to turn in my stuff and properly hand in a resignation letter. I would like that to be the end of it. Just shake hands and part ways. I know the general convention is to give two weeks notice, but I just started this job 3 weeks ago and technically am still a trainee. It would be a shock to them for me to up and leave, but I don't believe it would cause too much disruption since I haven't officially taken over the position yet. (Oh, in case you're wondering, I was laid off from a previous job a month ago and a colleague referred me to this one I'm wanting to quit now. I've decided I don't like my current job and I'm more fired up than ever to pursue my dream. I am financially stable enough to do so and I've been thinking about it for a few weeks now.) Do you think in this case, I could get away without giving any notice?
