Is CS Lewis's book The Horse and His Boy racist?

Some of them are portrayed that way, but one of the main characters is a Calormene, so clearly they aren't all "the same". Also, their society and culture has its own values and identity, separate from any "real" culture. I think we should give Middle Eastern people more credit than to assume they'd get offended by a fictitious people.
