Help picking out a HD camcorder?

I'm an independent filmmaker, and I'm in high school, so I'm on a very tight budget. I need help picking out a camcorder that is HD and under $1000 that would work without problems and have good audio and video. Any ideas, I really appreciate it! It wouldn't be a disadvantage if it could take a little wear and tear and be very well built!
